Well, as Fred said, you need glib2-devel ... welcome to the world of multiple versions! Most important gnome packages are like that ... there's glib2, then gtk2, libxml2, and so on. More importantly, are you sure there is no precompiled package available for your distribution? I find that extremely curious. Which distro are you running, and at what version?
