Dia's autogen.sh does not check for a specific version of automake. AFAIK 
it will work with automake-1.9. But you only need automake to build 
directly from SVN. The tarballs are supposed to provide a working configure 
script not requiring automake at all.

Looks like a follow-up error of the above.
