Now, in the 0.96 I'm running there appears to be a small problem - if you put the characters (as described above) in an text object, it doesn't seem to work. However, if you create a text object in the diagram, deselect it (i.e. click elsewhere in the diagram), and then edit it, then you can paste the characters and it will work. Hope this works for you.
