Hi John- Report bugs to the issue tracker. Use Help->Report a Bug for this.
You can run KiCad in a debugger ``` gdb /usr/bin/kicad ``` Then, when it locks up, press Ctrl-C in the debugger and type `bt all` to show the current state of all your threads. Include these data in your bug report and we can maybe get more information for you.
