I will defer to @Adam Wolf <adamw...@feelslikeburning.com> for details, but my guess would be it is not enabled, because:
1) KICAD_USE_3DCONNEXION defaults to off, so must be turned on per-platform. 2) It is not referenced in kicad-mac-builder <https://gitlab.com/kicad/packaging/kicad-mac-builder/>, so there is nothing turning it on.
