Regarding Gallery, nothing should change in the short term, since
people in both camps are trying not to break compatibility with apps
and since there are ongoing discussions to make apps available from a
single, neutral repository.
i think this will be the main challenge for the ownCloud project as
also the Gallery App needs a new Maintainer:

Without both of this widespread apps many users probably just will
run to NextCloud because of this.
