Honestly, I think that is an entirely different thing. Chromebooks are VERY precisely targeted systems. Everything is being taken care off for the user (updates etc - you'll never see it). Being able to, with a relatively simple hack (hopefully) replace the Google services with ownCloud would make a great range of devices suddenly 'ownCloud devices'. I mean, how many laptops can you buy with LXDE on it? Even Ubuntu you'll rarely find. But Chromebooks - they are everywhere. And cheap. Replacing the OS isn't an option - if it was, Linux would have had 50% of the desktop market years ago. But replacing the backend - that might just work.
