Yo Hal!

You just pushed a doc change I do not entirely agree with, and is
insufficiently informative of the issues.

+NB: --destdir works at install time, --prefix works at configure time.

My tests show that --prefix only 'works' at install time. You 'set'
it at configure time, but the only 'effect' it has is at install time.
Otherwise it does NOTHING.

So --prefix, and --destdir, only change things at install time.

The confusion here is that --prefix does ANYTHING at ANY time other
than at install time.

As my tests show, --prefix makes no difference to the files installed.

I'd be happy if someone could prove me wrong. Try my test and see if
--prefix has any 'effect' for you, other than at install.

Also, how do DESTDIR and --destdir relate?
