Hi David
Renaming the "old" SailfishOS and the hidden .scratchbox2 directory at
least let me install the new SDK (on OSX) without totally removing the
old setup.
That way the old setup is not usable, but could easily be restored
back to use by renaming back to the original names. It remains to be
seen if this sufficiently isolates the old from the new so that the
new works problem free...
Tomorrow I will start playing with the new SDK.

Hey
Well, anything's possible!
However I will warn that we did not attempt to support dual installation and
we've experienced many issues during QA testing when we've not fully
removed the
old version.
One issue is that as well as QtCreator, we also use VMs and they
have the same
name; another is that the targets also have the same name and I think they're
stored in the ~/.scratchbox area so they'll collide too. Part of the
reasoning
here is to do with working alongside the Mer Platform SDK where we
actively want
to share targets etc.
On linux the solution I use for testing is to create a new user - since the
default install is all owned by a user and contained in their home
directory it
is very well contained. I doubt this is the case on other platforms.

Hi David
Good news!
Does the "old" Qt4.8.3 Alpha really need to be removed? Can't the
new Qt5 Alpha
be installed alongside? (I currently have 3 different versions of
Qt Creator +
SDKs installed, so one more can't hurt can it?)
Or is that just asking for trouble?
Being naturally suspicious I don't removing something old until I
know that the
something new works!

First of all, thank you very much for waiting - and now here is
the SailfishOS
SDK Alpha-Qt5 update supporting Qt5, QtQuick2 and Wayland!
In this release we roll out a SailfishOS SDK that works like it's
predecessor
but supports Qt5 and QtQuick, with it's graphics pipeline switched
from X11 to
Wayland.
Not only that but we've added update support so we can now roll
out improvements
- keep an eye on the Updates page in the Control Centre and watch out for
QtCreator updates too.
Don't forget we develop lots of things in the open - you're
welcome to join in.
So, point your browsers to https://www.sailfishos.org and ride the
wave, you'll
love it!
With best regards, David & Jarko
