Not sure, it's worthy integrating GearD into serf/consul as they
require an additional agent.
GearD is awesome because it has little to no dependencies (systemd and docker).
There are interesting ideas to steal like service discovery, failure
detection and maybe synchronization (zookeeper ?).
Having a more efficient transport than HTTP might be interesting in
very large deployments.
