and on the other hand i had longer time ago troubles with
my systemdisk suddenly disappear until hard power off and
more than one time i used firefox for half an hour because
it had anything in the memory and freezed only if it should
display a dialog with icons not loaded before

proven by /var/log/ on a different disk with errors in a
"tail -f" while all aplications worked for minutes and
even VMware machines could be CLEAN powered off via SSH
from a notebook as long they were on a different physical
drive

so no - it's not that bad doing updates while things running
