And IMHO that is the problem. Why did someone see it as a good idea to develop a replacement for well-known commands (that have existed in various forms on a lot of other OSes) and not make them at least somewhat compatible with what they were replacing? If you want to replace netstat and ifconfig, that's fine, but make a new netstat and ifconfig (or at least wrappers that handle the common options and give similar output).
