PPC Macs could only boot using HFS+ since Mac OS X 10.0 shipped in 2001 because 
HFS did not support file system permissions, etc. PPC Macs could boot from 
either HFS or HFS+ with previous versions of Mac OS.

680x0 CPU Macs could only boot using HFS.
