I seen this problem some days ago and taken them because some coin-or* are packages needed by openms.

Any other coin-or packages still unmaintained but important?

I just wanted to draw attention to the orphaned coin-or-* packages, which implement a variety of optimization algorithms for things like linear, nonlinear, and integer programming. I’m curious if anyone is planning to pick them up or if they are truly at risk of retirement. Several interesting packages depend on these, and it would be a shame to lose the whole collection.

In principle, I might consider picking up at least some of these packages, but they aren’t quite trivial, and I haven’t had time to look at them closely. I don’t have a lot of spare cycles right now, and I don’t like taking ownership of packages without doing a really detailed review, cleaning up anything that’s outdated, and fully understanding what I’m getting into.

The following packages that depend directly on at least one coin-or-* package appear to be leaves:

     freefem++, mp, openms, python-cyipopt

The following are not leaves:

    opencv – the coin-or-Clp dependency appears to be removable with some loss of functionality

    python-pulp - needed for the whole Snakemake stack, requires coin- or-Cbc

    scip - needed for Macaulay2, mp, papilo, and polymake, the latter two of which are not leaves

     spasm - needed for Singular, which is not a leaf
