I added support for zlib-ng (ie. the new API) to this package a few
months ago:

However if we succeed in making zlib-ng be the default with the
compatible zlib API then I'll remove that change.  As a test you could
see if it builds with the patch above reverted, but otherwise I'll
check it after the feature has happened.
