Not quite the same, but I run Silverblue and I often use a script* to
unlock the ostree deployment and install dnf on it. Then I do all
kinds of destructive shenanigans in my silverblue system and reboot
back to a clean state.

This allows me to use dnf to install things that get wiped out on my next boot.

In the past I have proposed we use something like this as a "developer
mode", that would make it easier for hacking silverblue (the system)
itself.
