Why not to v9?
Mainly because I had the v8 rebase 98% ready since a few months, but due
to vacation and other work commitments didn't get the time for a final
test and build+push to Rawhide.
You're right, as v9 is already released upstream, it makes sense to skip
v8. I'll work on a v9 rebase shortly and test if a v7 -> v9 upgrade is
supported.
