@Neal, I remember a Suse employee made once (about a year ago) a proposal to 
slightly modify FHS to better separate distro specific from local specific 
content, especially in /etc. Unfortunately I can't find the link again. Do you 
happen to know if that was related to Suse's snapshot+rollback scheme?
