There is a number of hosts hosts still pulling repodata for Fedora 7 and one lone host that checks for updates for Fedora Core 5 that will obviously never come. People will update when they want, or not. Plus force-modifying MOTD, or doing anything that's so invasive that someone is guaranteed to notice, is pretty antisocial. At best anything that you would use to do updates (like dnf or one of the graphical applications) could complain about the release being EOL, and I suspect that some of them already do.
