That is quite likely. Akonadi agents just crash whenever they feel like it.

I have long given up on attempting to use KMail, due to Akonadi. (This is so 
sad because KMail 1, the pre-Akonadi version, was much faster, much more 
reliable, and had more features than any of the Akonadi-based versions.) I 
have found Trojitá to be a much more reliable e-mail client.
