And now we're merging it in earlier for a subset of the distribution.  This
is a net-positive, right?  If your position is that earlier is better,
we're doing it earlier, and this is better.  If your position is that it
doesn't go far enough, consider the contrary feedback from some people here
where some maintainers are concerned about potential make-work for
themselves.  This seems like a good compromise position to me.
