For clarification, the complete rsync command may actually be something
like this:
rsync -arvi --dry-run --checksum \
/mnt/sda1_non_raid/ \
/mnt/btrfs_new/
Notice the trailing slashes as well.
If you love your data, please take a few minutes to experiment with the
rsync command on test data and ensure you are familiar with the output
for a mismatch.
In my own case, I also have LVM on top of md. I was able to do the
following:
activate one side of the md array,
vgscan to find my volumes,
mount them,
rsync dry-run as above,
unmount,
vgexport,
mdadm --stop,
physically remove the volume,
repeat for the other physical volume
