Let's agree that one's technical issue is someone else's political issue (we faced this in Eclipse SWT when had to drop Gtk 2.x support - we had a number of very good technical reasons to do that but for many of our users it was a political decision to do so) and there is not much one can do to change that as it requires to get to the same level of deep involvement in the issue. IMHO with modularity in Fedora we are facing similar case which would better be resolved really soon and clearer guidelines and recommendations are given to people that just want to ship their software on/for Fedora.
