In order to update in Fedora 30 I had to: (the first one was necessary on one machine) # dnf module reset octave (these steps are required) # dnf module enable octave:5.1 # dnf upgrade In the last command I had to use --best --allowerasing to update all octave packages, that lead to the removal of octave-communications and octave- parallel, due to the issues that you described in this thread.
