If I'm missing anything about the benefits of a modular libgit2 help me
understand. Given the current issues, this seems like a reasonable solution.
If other agree, I'm happy to submit these compat packages for review.

Obviously, the libgit maintainer(s) might argue that they want to maintain
libgit in modules.

I think we've come to a break point:
1. everything just works fine without modules
2. packagers are tempted by modularity
3. they move stuff to modules
4. everything is broken
5. best solution: go back to 1
(It's hard to not be sarcastic here and not congratulate ourselves on this huge
success.)
