As far as I know, rootless containers with podman require populating
entries for each user in /etc/sub{uid,gid}, which isn't currently
something easy to do if you have your users coming from sssd-ldap or
sssd-ad.  Those files are updated when using useradd though, but it
doesn't scale up to tens of thousands of users, particularly when the
user list changes daily.
