This is actually expected, but it's kind of an intermediate error: the
attempt to start GNOME on Wayland fails with this error, then GDM
should try and start it on X instead.

That's also kinda expected, it's more or less the intended effect of
passing nomodeset - it prevents the kernel module from loading so we
hit a fallback path...
