Have observed a similar corruption (with explicitly named backup, but it's likely of no significance) yesterday with Rawhide, but at that time it was least of my problems (see dbus-broker [vs. systemd-nspawn] in a slightly older thread, nsswitch.conf/pam was actually a false start based on some messages in journal I thought might be related).
