 Richard, you can enable that yourself 
1) type about:config  ( in address bar, an then type that what you want in the 
Awesomebar ) 
2) an look for that config an double click on it 
if you wanna keep XUL Extensions, my advice would be to install Seamonkey or 
compile Firefox52ESR
