I suspect it will be some time before all those packages are modified to not rely on it so any talk of removing it seems premature. I'm explicitly not talking about removing net-tools from the distribution, only about removing dependencies on a deprecated package. Also this isn't about deprecating in Fedora... The net-tools upstream deprecated this years (I think nearly a decade now?) back ... The package is already deprecated and just hanging on through obstinance and a reluctance to break muscle memory ;) It already isn't installed on a minimal install (eg minimal server) in both Fedora and RHEL7 to my knowledge, and outside of our RH world has been dropped from the default install for Debian Stretch (I'm not sure what Suse is doing). Note that a user or admin who really wants the old tool can still install the package, knowing and accepting the limitations of the old net-tools package compared to iproute. Eventually when the tracking bug I put together reaches zero bugs associated then perhaps the future of the package can be discussed, but I expected that to be at least three or four releases away at best and out of scope of the present activities.
