Gyeongtae Park created ZEPPELIN-6202:
----------------------------------------
Summary: Decode URL-encoded spaces in VFS notebook filenames
Key: ZEPPELIN-6202
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZEPPELIN-6202
Project: Zeppelin
Issue Type: Bug
Environment: h3. Summary
Notebook folders and notes whose names contain spaces are rendered with {{%20}}
in the Zeppelin notebook-tree UI (e.g., {{{}Flink%20Tutorial{}}}), reducing
readability for users on all platforms.
h3. Root Cause
The current path-normalisation logic uses
{code:java}
fileObject.getName().getURI().replace("file:///", "/");{code}
which preserves URL-encoded characters such as {{{}%20{}}}.
h3. Fix
Apply a UTF-8 URL decode step before the {{"file:///"}} replacement:
{code:java}
String noteFileName = URLDecoder.decode(
fileObject.getName().getURI(), StandardCharsets.UTF_8
).replace("file:///", "/"); {code}
* Converts {{%20}} back to literal spaces for human-friendly display.
* Keeps existing Windows-specific handling of the {{file:///}} prefix.
h3. How to Reproduce
# Create or import a note whose title contains a space (e.g., {*}“Python
Tutorial”{*}).
# Observe the notebook list: the title appears as {{{}Python%20Tutorial{}}}.
h3. How to Verify the Fix
# Build Zeppelin with this patch.
# Open the same workspace: the title now displays correctly as {*}“Python
Tutorial”{*}.
# Run the existing unit tests; no regressions expected.
h3. Affected Components
* {{zeppelin-zengine}} (VFS note storage path normalisation)
h3. Screenshots (Before / After)
_(Attach before/after images demonstrating the {{%20}} → space change.)_
h3. Notes
* No production logic other than string decoding is altered.
* UTF-8 decoding is safe for all supported OSes.
