I now think that including secretary in the workflow for filing emeritus
requests is the right approach. So here's how the process could work:
Member decides to go emeritus. They either
- go to the web site
https://svn.apache.org/repos/private/foundation/emeritus-request.pdf, fill the
emeritus form, print, sign, or sign electronically and email to secretary or
- go to the web site roster/committer/__self__ click Member status and click
(request emeritus status)
Either of the above will send email to secretary to file.
If Member decides to rescind their request, within 10 days they either
- send secretary a message asking to rescind their request or
- go to the web site (roster/committer/__self__ click Member status and click
(rescind emeritus request)
Either of the above will result in their emeritus request being rescinded.
If an Emeritus Member decides they want to become active again, they should go
to the web site roster/committer/__self__ click Member status and click
(request reinstatement)
This will send email to Secretary who will add the member to the next Members
Meeting where they can be voted on.
We should update the https://whimsy.apache.org/members/inactive.cgi page to
have the above instructions included. And start the process of inviting
inactive members to go emeritus long before the annual meeting.
