For optimum fun I would like an environment in which I can play freely, with no worries about corrupting production files.

There seem to me to be two strategies for getting that. One is to create a simple playpen of my own, with an svn repository and some other toys. The other is a create a fully local Whimsy test environment. That has the advantage that I can play with relevant libraries, as well as basics of Ruby and CGI.

What do you think?
