I wrote a couple of scripts that cache data on disk; however they are
each designed to re-create it if not found.  Thus the only issue is some
scripts may be slow to run the first time.

Yes, the two hosts must be super-easy to distinguish (or rather,
super-hard to confuse them when typing quickly).

I don't have dev time yet, but I will have testing time when ready.  Do
we have a single editable URL somewhere for testing or deployment notes
as a way to share ideas on the switchover?  We have a lot of different
groups de facto relying on various Whimsy tools, so we should be
organized about testing.  8-)
