GMail allows users to create aliases by appending '+alias' to the user name.
It also ignores '.' chars in the user name.
Some subscriptions to private and security lists make use of this feature.
This means that some email subscription are not recognised by Whimsy, and a PMC
member may be flagged as not being subscribed.
It would be useful to allow for such aliases when comparing subscriptions.
The ASF mail system also allows for aliases by appending '-alias' to the user
name.
Unfortunately there are some valid ids which contain '-' characters; this makes
it much harder to do the matching without risking a false positive, so it's
probably best not to try to implement it.
