Can you please explain "do not play well together"? The `:` makes that
option required I think. Also, most if not all of these plugins are
developed/tested/deployed with glibc.
My preference would be to do this in the core inside some sort of
`__GNU_LIBRARY__` ifdef block. We do support FreeBSD and OpenSolaris.
