We have discussed the pros and cons of git vs SVN in our community, the mail
thread starts at

Many of our developers are already using git for all development, using
git-svn. As such, I think our community is well equipped and prepared to
participate in this program. We do not expect supporting our community would
be a significant burden for infraops.
I would also volunteer myself to be the point of contact for tools
development, and in addition we have many community members that are well
versed with Python and git and svn in general. I believe we would be very
capable to provide valuable development resources and experience to this new
infrastructure piece.
