I think it's better to reject color emojies in ST rather than removing them system-wide. It's an XFT issue which should've been fixed long ago. A merge request fixing this exists for 2 years now [0]. The thread suggests that the patch isn't perfect, but it's certainly better than crashing the application as it does right now.
