thanks for the link, but that prompt seems to be ineffective.
I don't want to mess with vim code, as I'm sure they do that for a
specific reason, but I wonder why this breaks st in this way.
As of now, I can live happily with this alias:

alias vim "vim \!* ; tput smkx"
