dvtm [1] and tmux provide scrollback buffer that can be viewed/edited. Despite what the dvtm webpage says about copymode requiring an editor that can be used as a filter, when I use dvtm with DVTM_EDITOR=nano, nano works on a temporary file (not as a filter).
