I did build thusly:
installed version 1:0.88-3 of ucspi-tcp:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/ucspi-tcp
built and installed https://github.com/libressl-portable/portable
cloned https://github.com/younix/ucspi, then commented out ERR_get_error
and ERR_error_string, built, installed
cloned https://github.com/younix/sj, then
changed explicit_bzero to bzero, built, installed
Here is what happens for me:
~/a/sj$ env| grep SJ
SJ_DIR=/home/greagle/sj
SJ_SERVER=jabber.org
SJ_USER=taiga
~/a/sj$ tcpclient jabber.org 5222 sj
tlsc: tls_error: ssl verify setup failure
