The idea behind farbfeld is not to force you to store your images in this format, but to separate the image format handling from the program. Only allowing farbfeld-images for sent is a solution I wouldn't desire either. Converting each image you have to farbfeld would be painful and cumbersome. A better way, as I suggested at hackers@, would be to find a way to ad-hoc convert png's, gif's, whatever, to farbfeld.
