Good evening, An hack you can try is to grab the window xid and resize it externally to 98% of the screen space, maybe you can unite the three actions (firing up kodi, grab win xid and resize) in a script. For finding the win id, xwininfo, lsw or wmctrl [1]. For resizing, wmctrl or wrs from wmutils [2].
