That, too. But take someone who wants to have all parameters for each
image (exposure, GPS, weather, NASDAQ-index, ...). Only a separate file
would make sense.
This wouldn't be too much of an issue, as I'm absolutely sure there are
already tools around capable of dumping all EXIF-data to a file.

Converting an image to the imagefile-format would be as trivial as
offering a flag to enable dumping the EXIF-information to a separate
file.
