Well, as long as such functions are only declared deprecated in very recent X.org versions, I don't think that the X.org guys will remove them anytime soon, as this would mean that a lot of X11 clients would break. This particular function has been in use for decades one way or another, so I'm quite relaxed with such a warning... Best regards, Anselm
