You have to define MODKEY Mod4Mask.

Ok, it really seems that the config.def.h is not used.
I checked and on my archlinux I had to modify the config.h (Not for a
bépo keyboard) from abs.
Are you compiling from a package manager or a tarbal/snapshot from
suckless ?
Try to modify the config.h.
