Not that I know of for *all* windows, but if I remember right rxvt
has an option like this that you can put in your .Xdefaults
Something like urxvt.shading or urxvt.tint or I think.
It's:
urxvt.fading : 20%
'fading' is also supported by Xterm (proper, not sure about most
xterm-alikes). To cover both, you can use:
*fading: 20%
