It does seem to be what folks are gravitating towards these days.. I originally wanted to use xcb for wmpus too; I switched to libX11 simply because there were many more examples to help me get started. Luckily, the X11 code is nicely grouped in sys-x11.c so it should be easy to create a new sys-xcb.c along side x11 and win32 backends.
