As said, 4:3 monitors benefit greatly from it. I might not have much interest if I had a widescreen monitor, or a much larger screen, but as it stands bstack is practically a necessity for me. It's a perfect layout for having mc together with a terminal or two, which I nearly always do.
As far as merging, I don't really care one way or another, as long as the patch continues to work.
