Basically I was thinking[1] that SDL assumes wm is re-parenting, which means that both cwm and dwm have problems when SDL using application window is spawned e.g. black window, no content. Why it works with mcwm, I don't know[2]. [1] http://hg.suckless.org/dwm/file/tip/BUGS [2] If I reckon correctly, earlier dwm (5.7.2) + earlier SDL didn't have such problems, however there is nothing in SDL's changelog which would explain present behaviour.
